Friday Blues

So here I am, it's Friday and I'm not exactly excited it's the weekend. I don't really know why mind, it could be possible that I'm a bit down that [info]legionary is coming down this weekend. The two cars he had access to aren't in the state to do a long journey and other stuff like rail works were kinda conspiring against us.

I also don't like the fact it's raining, never good. On a good note tho I've got a Ribena Berry!

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

With the prowess of a seasoned samurai and the wisdom of a wizard, you try to do the sort of things that root out evil.

The Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded.

Think this is anywhere near describing me? I'm 50/50 on it to be honest though I'm not sure I go and try to root out evil!

Shiney New Laptop

Not that anyone really knew I was getting one however but last week I ordered myself a brand new laptop as the one that Cat used to use really is on its last legs. The interesting thing about this laptop is that it's an ibook, yup, I got a Mac!

The coolest thing about the Operating System it uses (Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger) is the dashboard. This is like a separte desktop thing where things called "widgets" live. For example, what I'm using to write this is a widget for connecting and posting posts to LJ; the best thing is it's just a shortcut away.. gotta love it.

Well, I've got one long essay to write for tomorrow so I gotta dash.

Sony Helping Cheaters

Reading The Register today and found out that Sony, who a currently being slapped across the wrists for their DRM software on their music CDs killing windows, are helping the people who cheat in games to hide their activites. Basically the software for their CDs has "rootkit" software which is allowing cheaters to hide their programs. If you wanna know more, read the cut.

Read The Details )

On other things, life is good. I'm off to my Grandfathers 90th birthday tomorrow which will be nice, chance to catch up with the odd relative here and there who I haven't seen in a while. Uni is going ok, working away and stuff, nothing interesting.

What a weekend

Well, althought the title suggest I'm going to write a lot chances are this won't be overly long. Saturday wasn't really that interesting. Got up around 11am and watched some footie and then made my way to Kierans place for around 4pm ready to go to Cardiff. We got there at some point in the evening (I honestly don't remember) and went out and got some takeaway for tea. We were staying at Kieran's girlfriends house and we were all kipping on the front room floor. Funny thing happened that night which was that I told them that I snore but a light tap would shut me up for a bit. When the time came to me snoring rather than tapping me a pillow was lobbed a pillow at my legs which woke me up with a startle and I couldn't get back to sleep for 1hr or so which was very annoying!

Next day we went into Cardiff centre and into the park next to the castle. There Kieran grabbed on to a branch and we pulled it down to pretty much the ground and let go swinging K up and down. I'll have a video I'll share soon, it was well funny! Then we went to see The 40 Year Old Virigin which was suprisingly good. However it wasn't till Sunday evening that the reason for going to Cardiff came which was to go see the Stereophonics live at the Cardiff International Arena. The gig was fantastic! The support band, The Dead 60s were ok but the Stereophonics were something else.

After the gig we made our way back to Bristol and I got to bed around 1am. All in all a good weekend, a change from the norm for me.

English Pride

If you've been living in a hole or away from any source of news for the past couple of months you'll have no idea about how The Ashes series has turned out. So if you're reading this I can now tell you that England have won the series 2-1 (best of 5, two tests were drawn). One thing I can say that at the start of this last test at the Brit Oval I said that no matter which way the test swang it was still going to go down as one of the best ever sporting specticles. The test at Lords aside all the matches have been gripping and thoroughly enjoyable and the test at Edgbaston, Old Trafford & Trent Bridge have all come down to nail biting finishes which has benefitted English Cricket.

It my short life I've been privilaged now to watch three amazing sporting occasions. Firstly I watch my team Manchester United seal a historic treble in 1999, England win the Rugby World cup in 2003 and now England winning The Ashes in 2005. All I need now to complete this is for England at some point to win the World and European Cup in football. One thing is for sure I will be buying the DVD of this Ashes series as there have been some fantastic cricket played in this series. Mainly because for 3 of the 5 tests I haven't seen the first two days as I was working and well, it'd be nice to see what happened as well as live some of the great moments like Pietersons 158 at the Brit Oval, Flintoffs bowling & batting at Edgbaston and Shane Warne/Glen McGraths last ever test match on British soil. I know some people who may read my journal may not have any interest in cricket but if you're English take pride in the fact that English cricket is on the up!

Bit of an Update

Howdy all, I know I haven't updated in a while but to be quite truthful very little has happened that would really interest anyone. Still thought I should least post something, passes time ;)

Anyway, I finish my placement next Thursday, the year has gone really quickly. It really does seem like yesterday when I started at my placement and it's really sad that I'm leaving as really I don't have any great desire to return to Uni. Don't get me wrong, I want to have a degree and I am going to finish (I've got a resit on Tuesday). However, working for year was a great break from academia. I'm not the worlds best when it comes to Uni work, I'm not dumb I'm just not great and doing what they expect. Still I go back in September to my 4th year which should be my final year but I've got an extra year to do as I have to do an extra module or two. Not that it bothers me, it may make it easier for me to pass.. still we'll see I suppose.

Off that a few days ago I had a right laugh on the phone with [info]legionary. I was perusing the stats for my website fluffles.com and came over some really interesting keywords that people searched for and that made my site appear in the results. Here are a few of my favourites.

leicester botanic gardens (ended up at the forum)
mephiskapheles bumblebee tuna song (again they hit the forum)
how to put centre surround speaker on top of tft monitor (ended up at my sub-page)

I also found that most people visited any of the pages for 30secs or less and we've had random visitors from Macedonia, Russian Federeation, China, Japan.. quite a global appeal we have obviously! Still it provided some hysterics which for me made a change.

Well, back to watching the footie, just gone 2-1 for Man City against Birmingham, not a bad goal from Andy Cole if you ask me.

As you can probably tell...

My LJ has taken a drastic design change, thanks to the peeps at [info]bad_ass_layouts (specifically [info]___eigloo_erika). I'm quite a kid of the 80s/early 90s and really do hark back to classic gaming. Personally the only classic consoles/gaming platforms I own are an Amiga A600 and an Atari Jaguar. I also own a Dreamcast but that really isn't too old.

There's something to be said for classic games. In my humble opinion they seem to have more gameplay about them. They're quick and easy to get in to but then they can take ages to master and even longer to complete. Games like the original Prince of Persia are a testament to this. Personally I've never completed the original game but I could complete PoP Sands of Time in a little over 45mins. Don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic game but easy to complete. The only games that have truely benefitted from advances in gaming technology is football (soccer) games and driving simulations. That said, as far as footie games go I'm still a massive exponent of Sensible Word of Soccer (SWOS as it's fondly know). Even though I enjoy the latest games I still believe they don't match the gameplay and pace at which a game of SWOS was played at.

In short; give me Cannon Fodder, SWOS, Flashback and Syndicate Wars and I'm happy :)

Surprise, Surprise!

I guess I should post something about yesterday as I had planned and executed a surprise party for [info]fluffle. For this I invited everyone of Cati's friends as I could without letting on to her at all. I also must say her friends were also good for not letting on either. I also invited [info]habzamaphone as the "special guest" and boy was it all worth it. I don't know how to kindly put it but Cati was, as she puts it herself, "shocked to tears."

It was a nice afternoon evening, we ate, talked, watched fireworks and, although not one of my top films, watched Dirty Dancing. That said I did manage to put a new twist to the tale which is shared now with [info]habzamaphone, I guess we'll never look at Baby the same way again eh ;).

Today was mildly quiet, watched the Grand Prix, saw England lose the first test and marvel at the guys on Top Gear set the world record for the number of barrel rolls achieved (6 if you're curious). Tomorrow I'll be going out with Cati to travel agents to try and cement an idea for our honeymoon. Ahh well, on to tomorrow (well, today really).

Some fun for everyone

Swiped rather blatently from [info]fluffle

Hopefully this should be a challenge with the randomness that my playlist can chuck up. Here's how it's played:

Step 1: Get your playlist together, put it on random, and play
Step 2: Pick your favorite lines from the first 25 songs that play
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from
Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly

1) "I can tell you why people go insane, I can show you how, you could do the same."
2) "chose a life, chose a job, chose a f**king big television." [info]frithonthehills
3) "Do you really want me to be as blue as you?"
4) "As I step to the edge of a shadow of a doubt with my conscience bleeding." Psyfira
5) "If I envied the things that he spoke of."
6) "Transmission third world war third round a decade of the weapon of sound above ground."
7) "Single ladies I can't hear y'all, single ladies make noise."
8) "See I reckon you're about an 8 or a 9, maybe even 9 1/2 in four beers time." Psyfira
9) "Animal rights is just another religon."
10) "Well I woke up this morning you were on mind."
11) "There's no time for us, there's no place for us, what is this thing that builds our dreams?" [info]frithonthehills
12) "Taking out the trash and the pictures that I stashed of the two of us in 1992." Psyfira
13) "Lyrical tactics, vocal gymnastics Es and pepped up, you get scrapped up."
14) "And let her know her grandchild is a baby, and not a paycheck Private schools, daycare, shit, medical bills, I'll pay that." [info]habzamaphone
15) "Your groove I do deeply dig no walls only the bridge my supperdish, my succotash wish." [info]habzamaphone
16) "I'm doing this for you're own damn good you'll make up for what I bled what's the problem...why are you crying."
17) "I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library line up to tha mind cemetary now."

20) "Check out chickey drivin' piggy's little blue car nobody taught him how."
21) "Enslaved by dogma, talk about my birthrights yet at every turn I'm runnin' into hell's gates."
22) "I'm my own worst enemy its bad when you annoy yourself so irritating don't wanna be my friend no more I wanna be somebody else." Psyfira
23) "This could be a close encounter I should take care not to flounder." [info]habzamaphone

Woohoo another update. It's been a while I know but then I aint been doing much :-) Anywho Cati is back in 3, yes *3* days and I can't wait. I've been waiting for this moment for ages and I'm gonna relish it.

As for life in general, it's pretty good. Nothing bad has happened so that must mean good things have happened instead, which is always nice. One good thing that I must point out is that Ashley is feeling better. She's been ill for a lil while and now that I know she's getting better I'm feeling a lot happier :oD

I guess that's it really, nothing else to say
